A Legacy of Excellence in Education

The V V S Gandhi Centenary School was started in the year 1969, the Birth Centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. This is the Primary wing of the Vidya Vardhaka Sangha.

The school has grown in leaps and bounds since inception. The institution conducts classes from Play School (3 yrs.) to Std VII – i.e., the Primary School. The school has two campuses viz., Saptharshidhama and Dhruvadhama.

The Play School is housed in the Saptharshidhama. The Nursery and the Primary sections operate from the Dhruvadhama campus. Each unit works under a Unit Head and the overall management is carried out by the Headmistress.

Academic Resource and Training Centre (ARTC) is that constituent of VVS which regales to house resources, both in E and Physical formats. The major thrust would be to galvanize teachers at all levels to enmesh themselves to enhance their existing teaching-learning expertise to augment 21st Century skills in classroom engagement.

The Centre will reposit all activities held, courses pursued and workshops, seminars or webinars attended. As a token of encouragement, teachers' achievement will be recognized and accoladed.

A relaxed lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM followed by free play, encouraging social interaction and physical activity.

Weekly Schedule

Monday to Friday full day (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM) and Saturday half day (8:00 AM – 12:30 PM) for revision and special activities.

Our Philosophy

Holistic Development

Holistic development refers to the social, emotional, physical, mental, and intellectual growth of an individual. Taking this approach to education means focusing on all aspects of a child's growth, not just their academic advancements.

In our school, we have structured our pre-school curriculum to include the activities to address the above developments in a child.

Rhyme and Rhythm

Delightful and enjoyable rhyme sessions get the children involved in singing by which their phonological awareness is enhanced.

Story time

Story session includes the use of attractive teaching aids like flash cards, puppets, stuffed toys with voice modulation and dramatization from the teachers which help in excellent understanding leading to recapitulation by the children.

Concept time

Early learning skills are focused by asking thought provoking questions and introducing new vocabulary during general knowledge time.

Fine motor skills

Fine motor skills are the ability to make movements using the small muscles in our hands and wrists. We rely on these skills to do key tasks in school.

Gross motor skills

Gross motor skills involve movements of the large muscles of the arms, legs, and torso.

Academics

V V S Gandhi Centenary School is a co-education institution with English as the medium of instruction. The school follows the Karnataka State Board System which has been upgraded recently to the National Curriculum. The institution uses the standard books recommended by the DPI of the State Government. Additional books and reading material are utilized along with technology for enhanced learning.

Our institution aims at providing contemporary knowledge and skills to students through creative and innovative methods that stimulate thinking and motivate them to develop into well-moulded, responsible personalities. Our focus is on conceptual learning through a mix of both traditional chalk and talk and modern methods of teaching using technology, project work, dramatization and hands-on experience.

Technology offers unlimited new ways of teaching and learning.

Spacious, bright, well-ventilated classrooms equipped with ergonomically designed furniture for students, bulletin boards, black boards, and Smart boards – form the essential feature of every classroom.

Library

A well-stocked and digitalised library consisting of over 15,000 books serves as a vast knowledge source for students and teachers. Books, journals, periodicals, magazines, fiction and non-fiction and encyclopedias form the library. Students are encouraged to make active use of the library resources in their day-to-day learning. It is open to the students and staff on all school days.

Science Lab

Provides ample space for learning science through experimentation. Students explore concepts hands-on in a fully equipped laboratory, fostering curiosity, analytical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Computer Lab

A full-fledged computer laboratory where each student has access to an individual computer, guided by well-qualified faculty. Students develop digital literacy and 21st-century skills in a structured, technology-rich environment.

Audio Visual Room

The school boasts of a state of the art 60-seater AV room. Here students and teachers have a number of lecture sessions or audio-visual presentations.

Arogyadhama

Arogyadhama, a Health Centre with an experienced doctor to attend to the health needs of students and teachers. Annual health checkup is carried out for all the students.

Yoga Day

Celebrated on 21st of June every year. International Day Of Yoga theme. 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' incorporates yoga into daily life and highlights its positive impact on physical and mental health. Teachers and students perform yoga postures together, fostering mindfulness and well-being.

World Literary Day / Reading Day

Conducted on the last Friday of November every year.

Students celebrate the joy of reading and strengthen their love for literature.

World Environment Day

Celebrated on 5th June every year. Students prepare charts, slogans and write-ups on the topic, raising awareness about environmental conservation. This initiative nurtures a sense of responsibility towards nature and our planet.

Focus on our culture

To imbibe our culture, Bhagavadgita, Vishnusahasranama, Bhajagovindam, Hanuman Chalisa, Bhajans and Shlokas are recited by students.

Spiritual Education Programme

Resource persons are invited to address students on value-based education.

Language Development Programme

To inculcate reading habits and enhance language ability, newspapers (Student edition) from Times of India are used. Weekly sessions and NIE activities help improve linguistic skills.

Assessments

Children are subjected to monthly reviews based on the topics covered during the course of the month. A comprehensive evaluation is presented to the parent. By the end of the year, these monthly reviews help in judging the overall performance of the child.
